Spring 2014 Weather Outlook

The Golf season will get off to a better start in 2014 after a disastrous start in 2013.

Winter weather lingered through May 2013 across much of the northern and eastern U.S., initially pushing golf playable rounds down as much as 40% across the North Central states and 10% nationally. Even with more favorable weather during the summer and early fall, playable days were still down over 6% nationally through November 2013 (PGA PerformanceTrak).

After a brutally cold and snowy winter across much of the U.S. this year, we look forward to Spring 2014 which will be more favorable for some and less favorable for others. While it won't be as great as the incredible golf year of 2012 when much of the U.S. experienced 100 year record heat during the Spring season and fantastic early golf weather, it can't get any worse than 2013.

According to the weather experts at Weather Trends International, the most improved regions for Spring golf will be in the North Central and South Atlantic regions. On the flipside, the least favorable regions will be in the Central Mountain, Northern Pacific, and Northern New England regions. (See Figure 1 above.)
