The Leaky Bucket – Attrition in Golf Participation
 
Golf participation remained flat in 2012.  NGF participation research revealed that there were about 25.3 million golfers in 2012, just off the 2011 figure of 25.7 million.  The year over year drop is within error, but the bigger picture - the 4.7 million golfers lost since 2005 and the downward trend in participation - is more alarming.

2012 China Golf Report Now Available
 

Golf is growing in China, and 2012 was a good year for golf in the country.The number of golfers has grown 16% since 2011, and 38% of China’s total number of golfers are now classified as Core Golfers (those playing at least 8 rounds per year).  Rounds were also up 8%, totaling more than 11.5 million for the year. With golf still in its infancy, opportunities for growth clearly exist in the market.

Golf: Great for Health and Fitness
 

Golf may not be CrossFit, but it is a great fitness activity.  Those who play the game recognize the benefits – 93% of golfers surveyed by NGF say that exercise is one of the attributes they like about game.  Latent golfers, or non-golfers who are interested in playing, also see the fitness benefits of golf.  43% of them told us that exercise is the main thing they like about golf.
